IDA August-September 2014 | Desalination & Water Reuse | 49 | Each one is designed to maximize branding opportunities and visibility at the event, and many enable sponsors to "own" a high profile activity or feature of the World Congress. For more information or to discuss options, please contact Ann Seamonds at seamonds@seamonds.com. Exhibition floor plan The 2015 exhibition in the award-winning San Diego Convention Center is the ideal place to showcase your company and build business. "The 18,000 m 2 exhibition hall allows us the capability to customize sponsorship packages for our exhibitors and offer new levels of promotional opportunities," according to Leslie Merrill, IDA exhibition manager. New for the 2015 World Congress Exhibition is the Innovation Theatre where there will be presentations and videos on ground- breaking technologies and practices. See the exhibition prospectus and floor plan or contact Leslie Merrill at lmerrill@idadesal.org for more information. OmAn PublIc AuthOrIty fOr ElEctrIcIty AnD WAtEr tO hOst 2014-2015 IDA fEllOWshIP PrOgrAmmE IDA welcomes the Sultanate of Oman's Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW), located in Ruwi, Muscat, as the host agency for the 2014-2015 IDA Fellowship Programme. PAEW is responsible for activating government policy on electricity supply and for providing and distributing electricity and potable water to residential, industrial, and commercial consumers. It evaluates multiple techniques for providing fresh water and power production. Oman has seven desalination plants, online or under construction, producing more than 50,000 m 3 /d. The Fellowship Award recipient will be named at the WSTA 11th Gulf Water Conference, which takes place in Muscat from October 20-22, 2014. He or she will relocate to Oman in 2015 to participate in a training programme. The deadline for applications is September 15, 2014. Details are available on the IDA Website at http://idadesal.org. The Fellowship Award Programme is one of the industry's most prestigious awards. It recognizes exceptional professional achievements and dedication to advancing desalination and water reuse. Recipients spend time with a host agency – a well-respected public utility or research organization – working alongside their peers and gaining insights into the host agency's operations, strategies and policies. The host agency also benefits from the IDA Fellow's experience and knowledge. This way, the programme advances global expertise in desalination and water reuse through the exchange of talents, knowledge and skills. The IDA fellow receives up to US$ 10,000 to cover airfare and accommodation. The host agency covers the Fellow's in-country living expenses while on attachment. The host agency reserves the right to determine the specifics of the attachment and its monetary commitment. The IDA fellow must secure additional sources of funding to allow him/her to complete the attachment. Applicants must be IDA members with 8-10 years of working experience in the field of desalination and/or water reuse. For a list of application requirements and selection criteria, visit the IDA website at http://idadesal.org. IDA PrEsEnts Water reuse and desalination for latin america development For its first event in Latin America, IDA has selected Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Americas - to host Water Reuse and Desalination for Latin America Development at the Windsor Atlantica Hotel on March 23-24, 2015. The conference will highlight the vital role desalination is playing in the region. It will feature international and local speakers exchanging their experiences and showing state-of-the-art desalination and reuse technologies. The preliminary topic list includes: • water reuse and desalination success stories; • water reuse and desalination in Latin America; • upstream and downstream oil and gas applications; and • mining applications. Latin America is suffering from one of the driest years in decades. Water reuse and desalination have become essential in water resource management, to maintain and grow the economy. Mining and the oil and gas sectors are leading in the use of these technologies in Latin America. IDA DEsAlInAtIOn AcADEmy AnD hErIOt-WAtt unIvErsIty PArtnEr tO OffEr mAstErs DEgrEE From January 2015, the IDA Desalination Academy and Edinburgh's Heriot-Watt University (HWU) will collaborate to offer a postgraduate programme culminating in a MSc in Water Technology and Desalination awarded by HWU. HWU will offer desalination-focused courses as part of its active online distance learning programme while the IDA Desalination Academy will develop the content and materials for the desalination courses. This will include membrane processes; thermal and hybrid processes; intake, pre-treatment, post-treatment and environmental Issues; and desalination economics and management. HWU will provide the content for non-desalination water technology courses, such as integrated Water Resource Management and Water and Wastewater Treatment, as well as research projects. The programme will include a week-long, intensive exam preparation workshop in one of the university's state-of-the-art global centres in Dubai, UK or Malaysia. The IDA Desalination Academy is a global institute for higher learning and professional development in all aspects of desalination. Its mission is to provide the highest level of training, education and instruction to individuals, utilities, companies, institutions, universities, and other organizations interested in desalination. "We believe this new partnership with a prestigious learning institution is ground-breaking in its ambition and will prepare the next generation of water specialists to face the challenges posed by increasing water scarcity against a backdrop of unprecedented global change," said dean of the IDA Desalination Academy, Leon Awerbuch.
