SHOWCASE August-September 2014 | Desalination & Water Reuse | 35 | NaNoH2o releases New projectioN software versioN Reverse osmosis membrane manufacturer NanoH2O has released version 2.2 of its Q+ projection software with a "more intuitive" graphic interface, the company claimed. NanoH2O says the new version enables users to output process flow diagrams, input pass-specific membrane ageing and performance, select water types suitable for projections under brackish conditions and model silica rejection and scaling. And Q+ is now available in simplified Mandarin Chinese. KocH retrofit is uNderway iN del rio Membrane manufacturer Koch Membrane Systems has started the initial phase of its retrofit to the ultrafiltration (UF) system at a water treatment plant in Del Rio, Texas. Following successful testing of Koch Membrane Systems' Targa II UF membranes, the firm determined that a retrofit could be implemented with minimal modification to the existing system. Koch has provided prefabricated rack inserts including manifolds, connectors and membrane cartridges that fit within the existing rack framework and used existing system controls. The full retrofit is scheduled for completion in a year. The plant was commissioned in 2003. By 2011, the plant's original UF membrane cartridges were showing signs of wear, requiring frequent fibre repairs. They have now reached the end of their useful life. dow lauNcHes reverse osmosis elemeNts iNto americas Dow Water and Process Solutions has launched a new range of reverse osmosis elements in North and South America which it claims can reduce energy consumption in seawater desalination by 10%. Dow's Filmtech Seamaxx elements help, the company said, to reduce the pressure needed for reverse osmosis desalination and provide reliable, long-term permeate quality for single or double pass and interstaged desalination systems. The system produces up to 99.7% water purity, and up to 10% energy savings with less fouling at high operating flux compared with conventional low-energy elements Dow said. The Dow elements are modular and handle up to 85,000 litres a day. Don't Compromise. Learn more: www.desalitech.com info@desalitech.com Next generation water treatment is here: ReFlex™ Reverse Osmosis featuring CCD™ technology. The industry has gotten used to compromises with RO: excess brine waste, too much energy consumption and not enough flexibility. Those days are over. ReFlex™ RO systems are built with standard components in a smart yet simple new way, typically reducing brine waste by 50% to 75% and energy use by 35% all while increasing flexibility and reliability. Our products are saving costs in a multitude of industrial, agricultural and water reuse applications. Join us in changing the way the world treats water. turNer moNitor wiNs deal at giaNt carlsbad plaNt Turner Designs Hydrocarbon Instruments has won a contract to install its TD-4100 XDC E09 oil-in-water monitor at the US$ 1 billion Carlsbad desalination plant currently under construction in California. Seawater intake has to be monitored because reverse osmosis desalination, as planned at Carlsbad, is vulnerable to hydrocarbon contamination. The Turner device uses ultra violet fluorescence detection technology which is capable of detecting oil at low parts-per-billion levels.
