RWM WITH CIWM 2014 PREVIEW September 2014 Local Authority Waste & Recycling 19 WRAP prepares for big transformations What changes have you noticed since the time you have been at WRAP? The agenda has changed so much over this period. Initially, it was all about getting recycling going and creating mar- kets. Questions were asked about 'what can we do with recycled glass?' and 'what could we do with recycled plastic?' and now we are looking at the holistic picture. Really it's all about consumer- ism, consumption and how we are using resources sustainably. We are now talk- ing about the issues that we need to be talking about. We probably had to go through the process of the stuff we did in the past to tackle the issues we now talk about. WRAP has had success with its Love Food Hate Waste campaign. Your latest report showed that since 2007, the UK has reduced the amount of avoidable household food waste by 21% - a 1.1 mil- lion tonne reduction. Would you say this has been WRAP's greatest success? The stuff on food waste has been aston- ishing. It takes a lot of work to under- stand food waste. It requires us to work in a different way. We work in a more collaborative way and that has allowed Dr Liz Goodwin is WRAP's longest serving member of the team. She joined in 2001, became chief executive in 2007 and has seen many changes. Big transformations are on the cards with WRAP expecting to achieve charitable status by the end of March 2015. Liz Gyekye catches up with her to discuss past successes and future plans. ► Truck-tech UK Ltd RWM 2014 Dynamic Bin Weighing Systems Radar Eye Detects Stationary and Moving Objects Detection Zone Set to Vehicle Width Multiple Radar and Camera Options Approved for Trade MID and OIML R51 Fully Dynamic with Full Lift Speed Cycle On‐board Computer Collects RFID and Weights See us at stand 5WO5 Botek Waste Management Solutions www.botek.co.uk Tel: 01427 875 800 www.orlaco.com
