Bury Council has announced that it could reduce household resid- ual waste collections from every two to every three weeks from October. The plans form part of the 'Bury Zero Waste Strategy', which the council hopes will boost its recy- cling rate from its current level of around 47%, to "more than 60%" by March 2016, while reducing waste treatment and disposal costs and cutting carbon emis- sions. The number of recycling collec- tions will rise even though black bin collections will decrease. Bury plans three- weekly collections Silicon Valley Bank has provided €8.25m in finance to Limerick-based waste management technology specialist AMCS Group. Wiltshire Council has chosen to replace some of their existing recycling vehicles with quality- used and re-manufactured vehicles from leading UK supplier Refuse Vehicle Solutions (RVS). Wiltshire Council fleet trans- port officer Ian Mckinnon said: "We needed to reduce our capital spend on vehicles and decided to look at the second hand market. We were impressed with the qual- ity of vehicles and workmanship delivered by RVS and since our initial order last year we have pur- chased additional vehicles." Wiltshire Council has currently purchased three used 'Recycling Kerbsiders', all Mercedes Econic chassis with Terberg bodies, and are pending the arrival of a fourth. All vehicles are operated by contractor Hill Waste Solutions. RCV Wiltshire links up with RVS An Essex-based waste and recy- cling company has been fined for safety failings after a worker suffered crush injuries when his arm was caught in an unguard- ed moving conveyor belt at its Harlow site. The incident happened last year to a 30-year old employee of GBN Services.GBN Services was fined £28,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,777 after plead- ing guilty to health and safe- ty breaches. A GBN Services spokesman said that the firm deeply regretted the injury their employee suffered. It also said that it had overhauled its health and safety management sys- tem. He added: "Our employee remains in our employment and in due course we hope will return to the work he enjoys."
