ith more than 750 exhibitors and 14,000 visitors expected, plus a host of features designed to deliver business, networking and learning opportunities, RWM in partnership with CIWM promises to be bigger than ever. The event's free three-day seminar programme will feature more than 100 industry experts, including Marks & Spencer former executive Sir Stuart Rose, environmentalist Walter Stahel, ECO Plastics founder Jonathan Short and Welsh Government head of waste strategy Andy Rees. The 'Local Authority' theatre will include sessions on increasing recycling through targeted engagement and guar- anteeing a higher quality recyclate. Key topics will include understanding the impact of recycling schemes such as pay-as-you-throw, targeted communi- cations to "challenging" communities and implementing a compulsory recy- cling policy. Covering these topics, LAWR will look at the arguments for and against pay-as-you-throw and find out how Ealing Council has adopted effective tar- geted-waste campaigns to help increase recycling in low performing urban areas in the next few pages. Industry expert Mike Tregent will also explore whether the UK needs to start looking at carbon- based recycling targets for it to become "truly resource efficient" (page 16). Elsewhere, this year's show will also feature an 'Energy from Waste' theatre. Visitors will have the opportunity to lis- ten to speakers such as Stephen Burnley from the Open University. Burnley will be on a panel speaking about the future of waste composition and its influence on energy from waste. See pages 21-23 for a sneak peek of the arguments he will be putting forward in this session.
