Richard Abell has joined the company with a brief to develop and implement a strategy to grow its revenue and profit. This will include developing new opportunities with Yorwaste's existing customers and targeting new business and revenue streams. The father-of-two was previously worked in the construction industry. Managing director Steve Grieve said: "He brings a new perspective to the company and we look forward to utilising his considerable commercial experience to hopefully grow the business further in the coming years." Movers & shakers Councillor Neil Swannick is to step down as chair of the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) after 13 years in the post. He played an inspirational role in leading the Authority into a 25-year private finance initiative (PFI) contract with Viridor in April 2009. Over the last five years since signing the contract, Councillor Swannick has been heavily involved in the construction phase, seeing over 42 facilities developed throughout Greater Manchester. Swannick said: "As the last of the new waste facilities is completed, I feel my job is done and it is time for new hands to take the reins and, I hope, take GMWDA further towards our zero waste goal." The WEEE Forum has appointed REPIC chief executive Philip Morton as its new president and chairman. Already a director on the WEEE Forum Board, Morton is taking over from the outgoing president, José Ramon Carbajosa. The WEEE Forum is a knowledge and data sharing organisation formed in 2002 by the major producer-led national European WEEE compliance schemes. In total there are around 40 members - of which Repic is one- representing EU countries, plus Norway and Switzerland. Morton said: "Since the WEEE Forum was launched it has become...the place to go to for WEEE-related things."
