"We're still very busy on site with some clients, though." For instance, he says United Utilities, for which the company works in joint venture with Costain and Atkins, has a particularly healthy Year Five pro- gramme. Galliford Try has already been appointed by York- shire Water to continue as a contractor into AMP6. Jones explains: "This was an early and significant step in the renewal of our frame- work agreements with our key water clients and reinforces our position as one of the sector's leading contractors. "Our main focus now is to secure AMP6 business from other existing and new framework clients. In AMP5 we worked with," says Jones. He says the greater early contractor involvement is "a positive development" for the industry, and will certainly help with reten- tion of design staff across the AMP cycle. However, issues remain surrounding retention of site-based and construction staff. Looking towards AMP6, Jones says: "It's hard to make any predictions about the impact of the move to totex since the commercial models are still being developed by our clients." Jones continues: "Likewise, we will be clearer about the effect of transition investment over the next quarter. We're aware of the spend but it hasn't had any bearing on us yet.
