20 Leaders 2014 Clancy Docwra overcoming the unusual clancy docwra Clare House, Coppermill Lane, Harefield Middlesex, UB9 6HZ T: 01895 823711 www.theclancygroup.co.uk the LeADeRS 2014 Water-related works are at the centre of Clancy Docwra's business. The company has delivered clean water and wastewater contracts, from construct-only to design and construct. The Portsmouth Water project was an unusual contract for Clancy Docwra. The company says: "Portsmouth Water had tried numerous different methods of dealing with the algae but all failed, so they came up with the idea of building three structures which would completely enclose these open topped water supplies stopping the UV, and hence the algae bloom, and giving them the compliance they needed." Clancy Docwra continues: "Portsmouth Water went out to independent tender for the work in July 2011, issuing a design brief which explained the problem and the required solution, but which gave tenderers the flexibility to propose their own designs and methods of construction. They wanted a one source contract, and so Clancy Docwra submitted a bid in conjunction with partner company Reid Steel." Clancy Docwra was awarded the contract in September 2011 with a total contract value of around £5.7M. The company acts as principal contractor for the project's entire programme, carrying out all civils and working with a number of other specialist sub-contrac- tors as required. The design, construction and installation of the steel frameworks was completed by Reid Steel along with other sub-contracted elements such as casting of the concrete foundations and formwork, all electrical work and small building works, and addi- tional assistance with building temporary roads for site access at the peak of the project. AMP6 already proving a winner for Costain costain Costain House, Vanwall Business Park Maidenhead, Berkshire, SL6 4UB T: 01628 842444 www.costain.com Costain's Natural Resources division encompasses the Water, Oil & Gas, Nuclear Process and Waste sectors. It was established in November 2012, combining most of the Energy & Process and Environment Divisions and some support service activities previously in Infrastructure. Revenue in the division (including share of joint ventures and associates) for the year was £397.6M (2012: £437.7M). In Water, 2013 saw significant bidding activity associated with the next regulatory cycle and Costain secured the AMP6 contract for Thames Water, whilst also retaining a place on the Severn Trent Water AMP6 programme. The Group has also prequalified for further AMP6 long-term contract opportunities. The group has also continued the successful delivery of its AMP5 frame- work contracts with Northum- brian Water, Southern Water, United Utilities, Severn Trent and Welsh Water whilst also continuing to deliver large capital wastewater treatment schemes for Liverpool and Brighton & Hove, the latter of which won Major Project of the Year at the 2013 British Construction Industry Awards. Costain is also one of several companies that has signed up to the government's Infrastructure Carbon Review. In 2012, Costain formed a joint venture with Severn Trent Water to create a complete business water management solution for high volume commercial and industrial users. Moving away from UK construction sector has proved to be a wise move for Costain, as with other players. Switching more into support services has been one of the major areas of develop- ment. Costain provided consult- ing services in the design of the 11km-long Upper Thames Reservoir.
