18 Leaders 2014 the LeADeRS 2014 Yorkshire Water extends Barhale partnership barhale construction bescot crescent, Walsall, Ws1 4nn t: 0844 736 0090 www.barhale.co.uk Barhale Construction is one of the largest privately- owned infrastructure specialists in the UK, employing more than 800 people in the UK and posting an annual turnover of £150M. The company works on major framework agreements and one-off projects in the UK, and achieves a high level of repeat business, it says. Testament to this is Yorkshire Water awarding a five-year extension to Barhale Construction's AMP5 deal. This award, which extends the partnership into AMP6, will see Barhale continue to upgrade the sewer network in south and west Yorkshire, working to reduce flooding, pollution events and constructing sewer diversions using both traditional open-cut and in-house tunnelling techniques. Barhale Construction anticipates that the volume of work undertaken in AMP6, assuming a similar workload to AMP5, could be in the region of £50M to £60M. Commenting on the deal, Rob Smith, the company's business unit manager, says: "The extension of our framework with Yorkshire Water is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our people and supply chain partners over the last three years." He continues: "The team now employs over a hundred people, the majority of which are from the local area. "We can now build on this successful platform to further strengthen our business unit in the north of England, providing further employment and investment opportunities to local communities, whilst supporting Yorkshire Water's vision of taking responsibil- ity for the water environment for good." the nuMbers 10 11 12 % change Sales £M 100.5 149.9 142.1 -5 Gross profit £M 11.3 12.9 12.1 -6 Operating profit £M 0.5 1.8 1.9 3 Pre-tax profit £M 0.3 1.4 1.6 8 Staff 591 740 869 17 Net assets £M 8.1 9.1 9.8 8 the ratios 10 11 12 % change Return on capital % 3.3 15.9 15.8 -1 Gross margin % 11.2 8.6 8.5 0 Operating margin % 0.5 1.2 1.3 9 Net margin % 0.3 1.0 1.1 14 Sales/employee £K 170.1 202.5 163.5 -19 AMP5 keeping Black & Veatch busy black & veatch grosvenor house, 69 london road redhill, surrey, rh1 1lQ t: 01737 774155 www.bv.com Successful strategy com- bined with strong project execution made 2013 the third record-setting year in succession for Black & Veatch (B&V); with group revenue of US$3.6B (£2.1B).
