COMMUNITY Community RePaint schemes collect reusable, leftover paint and re-distribute it to individuals, families, communities and charities in need, improving the wellbeing of people and the appearance of places across the UK. Organisers of the scheme say that one such group that has benefitted from Community RePaint is community group 'The Heart of Egremont' in Cumbria. They established a community centre in the market town to provide a meeting place and social venue for local residents. To support their efforts Community RePaint Wirral, which is run by Recipro [a project that provides construction waste to the construction industry], provided them with 30L of brightly- coloured paint to perk up the place, as well as the people using it, providing the perfect solution to their decorating needs. According to Community RePaint, every year, DIY-obsessed Brits buy over 400m litres of paint. Of this, a staggering 50m litres is left unused; it's either thrown away or stored in sheds, homes and garages. Community RePaint offers an alternative: collecting unwanted, surplus paint and redistributing it to individuals, families and communities in need, improving the wellbeing of people and the appearance of places across the UK. "If you are storing paint it is important to make sure the lid is sealed firmly so that it doesn't dry out and that it's kept in a dry place to avoid tins rusting," says Community RePaint programme coordinator Clair Lloyd. The robots were formerly used for mig, spot and projection welding of commercial vehicle chassis. One of the beneficiaries of the robot sale was Dtec Manufacturing, a recent start-up company in Walsall. The directors all have backgrounds in materials handling and have now started their own manufacturing facility, specialising in the production of tipping skips, both light and heavy duty, and forklift attachments such as snow ploughs, scoops, cranes and other forms of lifting gear. Co-director Tony Leaver says the acquisition of the robots, will enable Dtec Manufacturing to double its output from 10 to 20 skips per day. Since introducing the service in November 2013, the company is now cleaning over 200 bins per day. Two models of the Fico 4jet are available, each highly automated, making the work efficient and safe. The washing procedure is carried out within the vehicle to avoid waste and water spillage into the street. Depending on the model used, washing may also be carried out outside the vehicle. A multiple filter process circulates the water for continuous operation, allowing 300 bins to be washed with 1,500 litres of water before refilling.
