WHAT'S NEW! Overcoming water stress Given the amount of rain we have seen recently in the UK and the large areas of land that have suffered severe flooding, it may be difficult to believe that only 2.75% of all the available water is fresh water that is fit for human consumption. Such crazy weather extremes means being able to channel fresh water to where it is needed is becoming MCERTS for pH ABB has achieved MCERTS certification for its AX400 pH measurement system. Tested in a field trial conducted over nine months on an effluent discharge at Pembroke Power Station, the AX400, coupled with ABB's 7650, 7651, 7660 pH sensors, successfully demonstrated its suitability for use in treated wastewater, untreated wastewater and receiving water applications. WRAS approval for booster sets One of the key obstacles presented to consultants and contractors when specifying potable water booster sets can often be the water company's requirement for WRAS certification to ensure suitable equipment is installed. As part of its more of a challenge and by 2025 it is estimated that 65% of the world's population will live in water stressed areas. However, there are answers available to these problems and innovative companies like Grundfos have developed solutions such as Demand Driven Distribution that offers the technology to simply and significantly reduce these leaks. This is coupled with other technological breakthroughs such as the Grundfos S-Tube. www. grundfos.co.uk Tel: 01525 850000 The achievement of MCERTS certification means the AX400 pH measurement systems can be used in applications such as the power industry and potable water treatment. The 7651 with polypropylene flowcell and the 7653 with a reservoir-fed reference electrode are an ideal low-cost option that can be readily replaced and installed. Both systems are highly-suited throughout the potable water treatment process. www. abb.co.uk Tel: 0870 600 6122 continuing growth, KGN Pillinger now holds full WRAS approval for its variable speed energy efficient AV and EV range of booster sets. This certification is in addition to the full WRAS approval KGN holds for its UPod Underground Plant Room and means KGN Pillinger is now one of the only companies in the UK to have WRAS certification for both above and below ground booster plant. www. kgnpillinger.com Tel: 0208 681 0097 www.teekaycouplings.com tel: +44 (0)1494 679500 26 WET NEWS April 2014
