The Barnsley clayware manufacturer has seen exports triple in three years and is investing in its workforce to equip them for further growth. Clay pipes are the company's biggest export product and last year Naylor sold £2.4M-worth to custom- ers in 35 countries including New Zealand, Singapore and the UAE. Export growth over the last three years has been a key contributor to an expected £42M record turnover at Naylor in the year ending February 2014. In a bid to further increase sales, the 12-strong management team of the clayware division has completed a bespoke course of professional coaching, delivered in partnership with Enterprising Barnsley – an EU-financed business support pro- gramme from Barnsley MBC. The initiative is part of a package of support for human resources at the company, which employs 212 at its base, 70 in the clay division. Naylor has a highly skilled, loyal and long-serving workforce at Naylor and our aim now is to take that forward, bringing in more young people to learn production techniques and creating two new management trainee opportunities for science and engineering under- graduates. The support from Enterprising Barnsley to develop the workforce has been tremendous. The last few years have seen a dramatic turnaround of fortunes at Naylor following tough times in the recession-hit UK construction indus- try and a low period in export. The company is now in a strong Fast-growing exporter invests in workforce training position to grow, create wealth and skilled jobs in the local economy. Naylor currently has nine ap- prentices across its business and is resolved to increase that number by at least one-a-year for the foresee- able future. Two management trainees, who will gain sponsorship for their studies and on-the-job management training, will start later this year. Naylor Industries was placed in the latest HSBC Sunday Times' Track 200 list of fastest-growing British exporters and recently won exporter of the year at the Made in Yorkshire awards. Naylor's leading export products include Denlock, a jacking pipe which can be driven under roads and pavements and the company's chemical and thermal re- sistant ceramic pipe, Hathernware. Enterprising Barnsley busi- ness development manager Steve Hawkins said, "It is fantastic to see an established Barnsley company investing in its workforce in a com- prehensive way to support immedi- ate and long-term growth. We are extremely happy to sup- port Naylor's investment in people."
