20 | 21st - 27th March 2014 | UtILItY WEEK Operations & Assets High viz Viridor's energy recovery facility at Runcorn in Cheshire has had its "first burn" with refuse-derived fuel (RDF). One of the largest and most effi- cient energy from waste (EfW) plants in Europe, Runcorn will be capable of generating up to 70MW of electric- ity and up to 51MW of heat for use by Ineos ChlorVinyls at its neighbouring chlorine and PVC plant. Commissioning of Phase 1 of Runcorn EfW began in January and the first burn using RDF signals the final stages of testing and commis- sioning before the site becomes fully operational. The facility's renewable electricity and heat will supply the Ineos plant with up to 20 per cent of Trash and burn
