Fuel efficiency was also greatly improved in 2013 following the first four out of 20 Triple-E vessels on order joining Maersk Line's fleet. These 18,000 twenty foot container vessels connect Asia with Europe in what it claims "an energy-efficient manner". According to Maersk's report, previous estimates have found that the Triple-E vessels could improve CO2 efficiency by 50% per container compared with the industry average on the Asia-Europe trade lane, and early performance figures are in line with these estimates, it says. Commenting on the achievements, Maersk Group CEO Nils S. Andersen said: "Since the Group launched its first sustainability strategy in 2010, we have demonstrated progress based on a systematic approach of integrating sustainability into our business. "Over the years, our focus on energy efficiency has helped us reduce the costs and environmental footprint related to our transport services. The average CO2 impact of shipping a container from A to B on our vessels has been reduced by 34% since 2007." In addition, the company reduced total CO2 emissions by 17% 2010-2013; with 9% of that being achieved last year.
