PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES 36 Water & Wastewater Treatment March 2014 wwtonline.co.uk Doosan secures mining filtration contract Doosan Enpure has secured a £10.4M contract to design, procure and supply a filtration plant at the world's largest copper mine, in Chile. The Doosan Enpure scope for the Escondida Water Supply Project includes design, supply and installation of a 446,000m3/d pre-treatment plant, comprising of 60 rubber- lined pressure dual media filters, www.doosan.com Chilean copper mine Sludge Finder improves electricity generation The installation of eight Sludge Finder 2 interface monitors from Pulsar Process Measurement has helped increase electricity generation at Severn Trent Water's Stoke Bardolph sewage treatment works. Pulsar says the installation, part of a wider process improvement project, has helped the utility to reliably and consistently measure the sludge blanket level to optimise the pump operation. This ensures that the maximum amount of sludge of the right density is efficiently transferred to the digesters. www.pulsar-pm.com It's all in the mix For turbulent flow applications where a high degree of mixing is required in a compact installation space, Chemineer says its new Kenics UltraTab is designed to bring key benefits to water treatment and desalination plants, as well as chemical processing. Independently tested by BHR, the company says UltraTab provides the lowest pressure-drop per degree of all mixing models, enhancing energy efficiency of the process. www.chemineer.com UltraTab enhances process Open air benefits of water level radars Radar level sensors are being installed throughout the East Riding of Yorkshire Council drainage area. The council has undertaken a replacement programme for existing ultrasonic and pressure sensors, as well as installing new measurement points. This has been enabled via Vega's non-contact water radar level sensors. The company says measurement is unaffected by wind, rain or surface turbulence. www.vega.com/uk Actuators boosts biogas production Rotork's Schischek ExMax explosion- proof actuators have been selected to assist the production of biogas at the city's largest wastewater plant, Klaerwerk Gut Grosslappen. The ExMax actuators have been installed in the digester and fermentation tanks where all electrical equipment must be approved for use in hazardous areas. Six actuators have been installed in each tower for the operation of air dampers to balance the inside temperature with ambient temperatures. www.rotork.com Hydrok feature added to SUDS software XPSolutions' sustainable drainage modelling software, Micro Drainage, has been updated with the addition of Hydrok's HydroSlide flow control units. The software allows users to model existing drainage networks and identify areas at risk of flooding. David Fortune of XPSolutions said, "Micro Drainage 2014 contains significant improvements including a redesign of the 3D navigation, shape file import and rainwater harvesting tools, as well as the incorporation of new flow controls including Hydrok's Hydroslide." www.hydrok.co.uk Hydok's HydroSlide University purchases discrete analyser Lake Superior State University in the US recently purchased a Seal AQ1 discrete analyser for its Environmental Analysis Laboratory. This advanced instrument was purchased to analyse local, regional and national water quality samples. It also helps provide the university's students with practical experience of working with an analyser. www.seal-analytical.com Crowcon moves and expands facility Gas detection specialist Crowcon has celebrated the official ground-breaking for its new 3,700m 2 facility at Milton Park, Didcot. The facility, which is managed by MEPC, will house all existing functions as well as provide extensive customer training and product demonstration facilities. It also includes an additional 30% of manufacturing space and a full service calibration laboratory. www.crowcon.com Munich installation Crowcon and MEPC directors celebrate Seal AQ1 analyser Sludge Finder 2 River Aire installation Flocculant improves dewatering performance German chemical giant BASF says that a new cationic powder flocculant range that it is launching globally shows advanced dewatering performance in industrial and municipal wastewater applications. The effectiveness of the ultra-high molecular weight range for solid/liquid separation derives from its bridging capabilities, according to the company. Zetag Ultra offers strong floc integrity to withstand high shear forces, which makes it especially effective for the use in centrifuge applications as well as for dissolved air flotation. Marcus Fuest of BASF said, "Today, industrial and municipal water treatment plants are challenged to achieve maximum PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES 37 March 2014 Water & Wastewater Treatment wwtonline.co.uk Mini sensor designed for low flow German instrumentation specialist Nivus has added to its Mini sensor family with a flow sensor with built-in pressure measurement cell. Conservation efforts in the drinking water sector mean the discharge volumes within sewage networks have decreased significantly. The consequences can be noticed as lower flow levels in networks, which can cause a higher risk of sedimentation and hydraulic disturbances. www.nivus.com Mini sensor Small bore flowmeter selection made easier Titan Enterprises has produced an illustrated guide to help simplify the process of identifying and selecting the best type of small bore (12.5mm) flowmeter for a particular application. Achieving optimal performance from small bore flowmeters has very specific challenges. Titan says its guide, which can be downloaded from the company's website, discusses the ten main flowmeter technologies and provides a comparison between each. www.flowmeters.co.uk Titan turbine flowmeter Auma modularity hits the mark The build orientation of electric valve actuators is generally predetermined in the factory and then, once on site, the unit is hard-wired and commissioned. However with the Auma range of actuators, the unit is completely modular and also has a removable electrical connector. This means that the plug, display and motor drive unit orientation can be determined on site to accommodate the constraints of the specific installation. With 64 different ways to configure the product, the easiest cable routing can be selected. www.auma.com Modular system BASF's treatment plant at its production site on the Rhine Blowing away the competition Japanese manufacturer Nitto Kohki (NK) says its array of new air blowers, being released throughout 2014, are a step- change in technical expectations within aeration applications such as domestic sewage treatment and biogas. The company says its new LA-ECO range will bring this technology to customers demanding low power consumption. NK's UK pump sales manager, Rick Faulkner, said, "Our R&D guys in Tokyo have really done a fantastic job and I am confident our customers will feel the same." www.nitto-europe.com LA-ECO air blower Rittal catalogue - a source of advice German IT and enclosure specialist Rittal's new Catalogue 34 provides the essential product guide for industrial and IT solutions. The catalogue's 700 pages act as a comprehensive information resource about available product types, sizes, specifications, software and services, as well as a source of advice and support for customers. Rittal says clear navigation allows users to track down the right product in minimal time and place an order. The catalogue is available as hard copy, CD or download. www.rittal.co.uk Rittal's new catalogue Zetag Ultra flocculant performance under increasing cost pressure. Zetag Ultra has proven its excellent performance in a variety of extensive plant trials worldwide." Zetag Ultra will be featured at IFAT 2014 in Munich from 5-9 May 2014. Where vertical cable routing is required, pre-punched cut-outs are provided in the mounting brackets for compartment dividers. Horizontal cable routing occurs behind the front trim panels, which entails fitting a wiring trim panel suitable for accommodating a wiring channel. www.rittal.co.uk Wiring panel
