NEWS The month in resource manage Leicester Impact relocates offices Impact Air Systems, a Leicesterbased waste extraction and separation company, is celebrating its relocation to new, larger premises. The company has seen strong demand from the recycling industry for its services. Speaking about the move, owner and managing director Nick Ball said it was "an exciting time". Ball and his team of 30 has relocated to a two-storey building with a 2900sqft warehouse, which is now home to its Parts Replenishment Department and a new and improved recycling test facility. Waste management Ashford sheds 'worst recycling council' tag Shifting from a black-sack weekly collection service to a new bin system has helped Ashford Borough Council to boost its recycling rate from 14% to 52%. The new system was rolled out by contractor Biffa on July 8 2013 and is helping the borough to ditch its historical 'England's worst recycling council' tag. Leading off its £86m, tenyear contract with the Mid Kent Joint Waste Partnership that comprises Ashford, Maidstone and Swale Borough Councils, Biffa implemented Ashford's first alternate week collections of a wide range of commingled dry recyclables, and of residual waste, from separate wheeled bins. Carbon emissions Straight carbon reduction Straight has completed a recertification of the Carbon Reduction Label having delivered a 29% reduction in CO2 emissions associated with certified products. Most of the waste and recycling containers made by Straight at its state-of-the-art factory in Hull bear the Carbon Reduction Label, including kerbside boxes, food waste caddies, wheeled containers and inner caddies, compost bins and water butts. The Carbon Reduction Label demonstrates that products that have undergone an assessment of their total greenhouse gas emissions at every stage of the product lifecycle, including production, transportation, preparation, use and disposal. Watermead Parish Council has new lake boardwalk made entirely from recycled plastic films and bottles.
