MUNICIPAL VEHICLES What are the new trends that you are seeing and where do you see growth in the sector in the next five years? Faun Zoeller says that the trends in 2014 continue to focus on recycling and the environment, specifically on multistream collection vehicles, both spilt bodies and food and recycling pods. What is your top-selling model and why? The top-selling models of 2013 were the VARIOPRESS II and EVOPRESS compaction refuse collection bodies and the Zoeller ROTARY Low Level Spilt Automatic Lifter. • Isuzu Truck UK Isuzu Truck (UK) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Isuzu Motors (Japan) and is the importer and distributor of the Isuzu commercial vehicle products in the weight range of 3.5 tonnes upwards. It sells into Isuzu N75.190 7.5 chassis the municipal market with both direct sales or through its close relationships with the RCV and recycling body manufacturers. The company also says that 2013 was a difficult year, with the early part of it being Isuzu's best-selling model slow, followed by huge interest in pulling orders forward to avoid the fear of additional costs and complications of operating Euro 5 vehicles. A spokesman adds: "This will undoubtedly have an effect on 2014 sales an ITUK believes that sales will be about the same in 2014 as they were in 2013, again with a slow start but again picking up in the latter part of the year." What trends are you seeing? Where will growth come from? An ITUK spokesman says: "Unfortunately, the market is still awash with differing methods of roadside waste collection. We have certainly seen an increase in demwand for food waste collection vehicles on 7.5 tonne chassis, particularly for Scotland. This size vehicle seems to be the most usable solution because it is so compact and manoeuvrable, plus the extra payload that the lightweight Isuzu N75.190 offers is ideal for this type of operation." What is your top-selling model and why? Its most popular chassis is the Isuzu 'Forward' N75.190, 7.5 tonne chassis fitted with Isuzu's 'Easyshift' automatic transmission. 18 Local Authority Waste & Recycling January 2014 • JCB Waste and Recycling JCB offers a variety of machines for the re-handling requirements of the waste collection and recycling industries. Their line-up comprises JCB Wastermaster specification wheeled loading shovels, JCB's waste and recycling vehicle telescopic handlers and forklifts, telescopic wheeled loading shovels, wheeled and tracked excavators, skid steer loaders, rough terrain forklifts, articulated dump trucks and generators. According to the company, all its products are designed for "the harsh environments and the high utilisation demanded by the sector." Although JCB did not comment on 2014 predictions, it stated that its best-selling model was its telescopic handler producer. • Gulliver's Truck Hire Gulliver's Truck Hire is a family-owned vehicle hire company. The firm offers a wide range of general and municipal vehicles throughout their nine depots, available on spot, flexi or contract hire. Sales director Neil Jeremiah says that business and trading is encouraging. But he says "like everything you have to work at it, and we are constantly faced with different pressures and challenges every day". Speaking about the year ahead, Jeremiah says that Gulliver's is optimistic about the year ahead. He adds: "Due to lack of funding in the marketplace and budget restraints our strategy to invest in new facilities and Euro 5 equipment will certainly give us every opportunity to grow our brand and become the first choice provider in many areas of the UK." What are the new trends? Food waste vehicles and one pass vehicles, including 12t and 15t chassis for rural access, are becoming more popular. Changes in frequency of collection and waste streams are driving these changes, according to Jeremiah. What is your top-selling model and why? Gulliver's best-selling model is its Dennis Eagle/Terberg RCV. The firm says that "the twin pack application has been highly utilised giving operators options on waste streams and recyclables, etc". " Our strategy to invest ... will certainly give us every opportunity to grow our brand and become the first choice provider in many areas of the UK "
