BUSINESS synergistic alliance will yield compelling value for both of our shareholders." The transaction will be subject to the approval of the shareholders of both UEL and Memstar. NUvErra/HalIBUrtoN agrEEmENt oN prodUcEd-watEr trEatmENt Nuverra Environmental Solutions Inc, which until mid-May 2013 was known as Heckmann Corporation, announced on 15 July 2013 that it has entered into an agreement with Halliburton to advance the treatment and recycling of produced water to be re-used in the hydraulic fracturing process. To date, Halliburton has completed more than 60 wells and 280 fracturing stages in the Permian and Bakken using its H2O ForwardSM Service, which significantly reduces the amount of fresh water required in hydraulic fracturing. "We will be working closely with Halliburton in the Bakken Shale to utilize their H2O ForwardSM Service for water re-use and recycling," said Mark D Johnsrud, Nuverra's CEO. "We believe this agreement will further expand our full-cycle, closed-loop environmental solutions package." H2O ForwardSM Service allows customers to recycle waste streams of produced water for use in well completions. The service formulates stable fracture fluids that have the ability to work with any waste stream, including water containing total dissolved solids with values as high as 285,000 parts per million, for use in hydraulic fracturing operations. Nuverra and Halliburton will work together in the Bakken Shale area to offer the H2O ForwardSM Service to exploration and production companies. For hydraulic fracturing operations conducted by Halliburton using the H2O ForwardSM Service, Nuverra will provide the logistics, transportation, storage, and overall fluid management. gErmaN mEmBraNE-makEr laNxESS movES HQ Reverse-osmosis membrane and ion-exchange manufacturer Lanxess has moved its headquarters to Köln, Germany, and is officially managing its global operations from there as of 1 August 2013. This increases the private equity firm's total investment to US$ 9.5 million and brings the total amount raised by the company to over US$ 13 million. The funds will be used to accelerate Desalitech's growth and strengthen its position as the leading supplier of high-recovery low-cost industrial water treatment solutions. CCD systems have achieved over 97% recovery whereas traditional RO systems typically operate at only 75% recovery. CCD systems are desalinating seawater with 1.5 kWh/m3 energy, compared with 2-3 kWh/m3 with state-of-the-art conventional RO. Similar savings percentages have been achieved with CCD systems in industrial water and effluent treatment applications. "Desalitech has developed a superior and differentiated technology to meet the growing and irreversible market demand for high efficiency and high recovery," said Jeff Garwood, managing director of Liberation Capital. "Their solutions are ideal for industrial and agricultural water treatment, where fresh water supply and effluent disposal costs have become a burden, or even a limiting factor in many cases."
