www.morrisones.com T he Government's energy strategy, supported by the recently published British Energy Security Strategy, aims to have over a third of the UK's homes heated using hydrogen by 2050. To supplement this, the Government will increase low-carbon hydrogen targets from 5GW capacity to 10GW by 2030 in a "big bet" on hydrogen, the delivery of which will require significant investment in the UK's infrastructure networks. Morrison Energy Services has a long history of providing innovative and efficient engineering solutions to its clients and their customers on a number of high profile projects throughout the UK. These solutions and innovations will provide clients with significant investment opportunities as the gas industry moves towards hydrogen. Morrison Energy Services is diversifying and expanding its offering to clients, allowing for more varied options of products and services, an example of this is Cured in Place Pipe (CIPP) lining techniques for gas mains, an innovative method which will provide clients with greater financial opportunities and operational and customer benefits. Working with M Group Services operating businesses PMP Utilities and IWJS, on behalf of Cadent, Morrison Energy Services successfully completed the first ever CIPP installation on a connected gas network in the UK. Minimising the need for excavation, CIPP has many environmental, customer and social benefits, with a reduced carbon output and less disruption for road users. Until this point, CIPP had only been used on wastewater pipes but this collaboration enabled Morrison Energy Services to utilise cross-sector expertise and specialisms to bring these benefits to the gas industry. Morrison Energy Services has also applied a bonded fitting to the CIPP liner, again for the first time on a connected gas network. This fitting will provide the capability for almost size-for-size pipe replacement works in a far more sustainable manner.
