The Victorian Granton Gasholder in
Glasgow is set to be given a new lease
of life as an art installation.
As part of a £150,000 project by the
city council and Edinburgh College,
artists, designers and students will
use the iconic landmark as the back-
drop for a spectacular sound and light
art installation.
The gas holder was originally one
of three that served the gas works and
was last used 20 years ago.
The gasometer is 80m wide and
nearly 50m tall and was built in 1903.
Under plans currently being discussed
by councillors, it will be illuminated at
night for at least two years
The city council is expected to
approve spending of £100,000 on
the project, subject to £50,000 being
