As the UK seeks ways to reduce emissions
from the transport sector in a bid to be net
zero by 2050, Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) has
announced it is developing a hybrid-electric
version of its Airlander 10 airship.
The base configuration of the
Airlander 10 has four combustion engines,
and is already able to deliver a 75 per cent
reduction in emissions over comparable
aircra„, but HAV plans to increase this to
90 per cent by using electric engines.
During all-electric operation, Airlander
10 will cruise at a speed of 50 knots, which
could increase to 70 knots in hybrid-electric
mode. On an example route of about 200km,
90 passengers could travel from Liverpool to
Newcastle in two hours, with emissions 90
per cent lower than other aircra„.
