Swedish utility Vattenfall has begun
construction of its first floating solar
farm, in the Netherlands.
The solar farm, which will have a
capacity of 1.2MW, will be installed in
a quarry at Gendringen in the south-
east of the country.
Netterden, which is funding the
project, has been extracting sand
and gravel at the Gendringen site
for 25 years. Over this period, the
extraction activities have created a
pond, on which Vattenfall is con-
structing an island made of floating
solar panels.
The solar farm will meet half of the
Floating farm
