24 | 10TH - 16TH JANUARY 2020 | UTILITY WEEK High viz Gridserve has handed over the UK's most advanced solar farm to Warrington Borough Council in a project that paves the way for a nationwide expansion of subsidy-free renewable power. The panels increase solar generation by 20 per cent because they are bifacial, allow- ing light to be absorbed through both sides, and are also mounted on horizontal pivots, enabling them to track the sun as it rises and sets. Both are firsts for a large-scale project in the UK. The 34.7MW solar farm also features a battery storage system with a capacity of 30MWh. It is one of two projects to be built under contract with Warrington Borough Council. The other is being built in Hull and is due to be handed over early next year.
