16 | 15TH - 21ST NOVEMBER 2019 | UTILITY WEEK High viz Work by Skanska as part of Anglian Water's @one Alliance, to refurbish and expand Wymondham Water Recy- cling Centre in Norfolk, has achieved a near-zero impact on the environment, a•er reducing carbon in construction by 83 per cent. The upgrade was needed to ensure the site could meet increased demand from new and future housing develop- ments on the outskirts of Norwich. The scheme also needed to meet Anglian's ambitious goal to reduce the carbon in newly built assets by 60 per cent, to help realise the water indus- try's commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. A•er considering constructing a new treatment process and site building, the team opted to instead completely refurbish the existing site, saving almost 3,000 tonnes of carbon.
