ALLIANCES 2020: SEVERN TRENT A joint venture between VolkerStevin and Atkins has been confirmed as one of seven contractors on Severn Trent's AMP7 capital delivery design-and-build framework, which will involve delivering the detailed design and construction of new water assets. Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, will be bringing its design expertise to the partnership, while VolkerStevin will be providing its capabilities in project delivery. The two companies have a long track record of working together, including on the Environment Agency's water and environment management framework, which has delivered over 100 projects during the last six years. Work on the Severn Trent framework is scheduled to cover AMP7, with the contractors able to make a headstart on planning aˆer the water company secured fast-track status in PR19. "As engineers, we're excited by the opportunity to support Severn Trent Water further to enhance the quality of its customer services and increase the levels of protection afforded to the environment," Richard Whale, water market director at SNC-Lavalin's Atkins business, said. "AMP7 undoubtedly requires a step change in innovation, and I very much look forward to working with VolkerStevin in delivering our shared commitment for enhanced levels of programme efficiency." As well as working on lot 1 with VSA+, VolkerStevin has been appointed to Lot 2, a civil engineering-led build-only framework. CLIENT: Severn Trent PARTNERS: VolkerStevin, Atkins CONTRACT: AMP7 capital delivery design-and- build TERM: Until 2025 VolkerStevin and Atkins form new relationship VSA+ A newly formed joint venture between Barhale and Doosan Enpure has secured places on two Severn Trent frameworks for AMP7, with places on both the civil engineering-led capital delivery build-only framework and the MEICA-led capital delivery build-only framework. The JV, which brings together two of the UK's leading water sector specialist contractors, will undertake infrastructure and non- infrastructure capital projects for the Midlands-based utility. Dave Shaw, regional director of Barhale, said the appointment is positive proof of the strength of the JV approach. "By combining forces, we felt that Barhale and Doosan Enpure brought together a raˆ of complementary skills," he said. "It gives us outstanding capability across the requirements of AMP7. We are very excited to have been appointed to two lots. "We are now keen to start work, tackling what will undoubtedly be some big challenges and building on the existing relationship with Severn Trent developed in the delivery of strategic projects in its AMP6 programme." Avtar Jirh, chief executive officer at Doosan Enpure, added: "Our JV provides a strong collaborative partnership and this framework will enable the JV to demonstrate its extensive knowledge, experience and ability to deliver projects successfully in the water sector – and ultimately to support Severn Trent in making a difference in service delivery to its customers." Both have carried out extensive work for Severn Trent in recent years – contributing to some of the company's biggest projects including the Elan Valley Aqueduct, Newark Waste and Water and Birmingham Resilience projects – with Barhale working with nmcn as part of the BNM Alliance and Doosan working with nmcn as part of the DNM Alliance. The JV has also secured a place on Yorkshire Water's £1 billion civils framework for 2020-25, carrying out complex civils along with Eric Wright Water, Galliford Try Infrastructure, Interserve Construction, Kier Integrated Services, Mott MacDonald Bentley and Peter Duffy. The work will include design, build and refurbishment of treatment assets, including reservoirs and pumping stations. The Yorkshire Water framework, awarded aˆer a 12-month procurement process, comes with an optional extension of up to three years.
