Harlow Hill Water Tower in Harrogate
was a key part of a celebration of the
town's spa heritage in September.
The Grade II Listed Yorkshire Water
structure – and 36 wells in Harrogate's
Valley Gardens – were lit by sha•s of
light to create a 3D art installation.
The celebration, called Harrogate
1571, was the idea of Harrogate Inter-
national Festivals, and was commis-
sioned by Harrogate Borough Council
as part of a cultural programme for
the UCI World Cycling Championships.
The tower was built in 1902 by
Harrogate Corporation waterworks
engineer Edward Wilson Dixon, and
was lit by Yorkshire lighting expert
James Bawn of Element 3 Design.
Harrogate has more than 100 wells,
but Bogs Field in the Valley Gardens is
