UTILIT Y WEEK LIVE 2019 REVIEW This year's Utility Week Live featured the fi rst Gas Innovation Showcase. Network editor Alec Peachey spoke to some representatives from the gas industry to fi nd out about the challenges facing the sector and the key role it can play in driving decarbonisation forward. NETWORK / 35 / JULY/AUGUST 2019 Showcasing gas T he showcase brought together the ve UK gas distribution and transmission networks – Cadent, National Grid Gas Transmission, Northern Gas Networks, SGN and Wales & West Utilities- along with the industry's trade association, the Energy Networks As- sociation (ENA). One of the key projects showcased over the two-day event at the Birmingham NEC was an initiative to explore Gas Decarboni- sation Pathways. This involves all ve gas networks and aims to build a low cost, low carbon network and develop new technolo- gies that make the most of biogas, bioSNG, hydrogen and smart hybrid heating systems. The Future of Gas session in the Network theatre also explored the role for gas in decarbonising heat, transport and other energy vectors.
