Community to promote the use of electric vehicles, lming a series of comic short lms called Kick- ing Gas for not-for-pro t lobby group Veloz. Veloz's mission statement is to persuade Americans to ditch petrol in favour of electricity. Of course, California has always been kind when it comes to giving actors a tilt at politics (Ronald Reagan was its governor twice), but it's taken Trump to turn Arnie into a political big beast. Let them eat air Eating meat is bad for the planet, but alternative sources of protein are scarce, except for perhaps insects, which most of us don't nd appetising. Well, a radical alternative could be with us sooner than you think if Finnish company Solar Foods has its way. The Helsinki-based company claims to have invented a protein-rich foodstu‡ made of electricity, water and air. The process is described as a lot like brewing beer, where an edible powder is created using living microbes fed carbon dioxide and passed through hydrogen bubbles. Who knows, in 20 years' time, Solien (for that's what it's called) could be a staple food- stu‡ for humanity. That means we would only have to use the bugs for garnish. Kate Levick @KateLLevick UK #GreenFinanceStrategy out today at last. Very pleased to see ambitious framing, pathway to mandatory TCFD disclosure by 2022, also new measures to green UK public € nances. But - it is not transformational or an ambitious roadmap for € nancing a resilient net-zero UK. William Marchant @richonlyinname Mm. That Which? presser is a right load of old guˆ . It's annoyed unsustainable pricing is allowed, but also annoyed those prices aren't honoured when suppliers fail & their customers are trans- ferred. Make your minds up. Which do you want? You can't have both... Tom Steward @Steward_T Committee on Fuel Poverty propos- ing a new additional treasury- backed fund. It's right that more resources are targeted at the fuel poor, & it's right that it comes from taxation, not regressively put onto energy bills. Here's hoping the government listens. ElectraLink @ElectraLink A wind turbine saw a #solarpanel at an #energy convention. She leaned in and said, "By the way, I'm a big fan." #International- JokeDay David Wallace-Wells @dwallacewells "Europe has had € ve 500-year summers in 15 years." That means summers like this should have happened once since the inven- tion of the printing press, the beginning of the Renaissance, the discovery of America. There have been € ve in € œ een years. Top Tweets #UnwantedIvanka, which quickly went viral, where photos of Ivanka were photoshopped into various historical moments, from the Last Supper to the D-Day landings, where her presence would have been both surprising and unwelcome. Ah, fame. It's a ckle thing, and ultimately it was not enough to spare poor Oscar a stint in gaol. Trump must be hoping the parallels end there. Big beasts and fanboys One lasting legacy of Donald Trump is that he's made the hitherto risible ex-governor of California, Arnold Schwarzeneg- ger, into a serious elder states- man of politics. The Austria-born muscle man and action hero actor is also a Republican, but that's where the similarity between them ends. The pair have been engaged in an ongoing Twitter spat since the onset of Trump's presi- dency, with Schwarzenegger mocking Trump for looking like a "fanboy" when he met Russian president Vladimir Putin. There was a time when Schwarzenegger was himself mocked, most notably for driving round in a Hummer, a civilian iteration of a Humvee and the thirstiest gas-guzzling vehicle on the road. These days, the Hollywood star is lending his fame to e‡ orts The fame game According to Oscar Wilde, there is only one thing worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. And what's true for a foppish Victorian playwright is also true for an orange modern day president of the United States. Fame is the only currency that counts. In which case, observes Disconnector, it's not been a good week for Mr Trump. Sure, he insulted Japan by claiming they didn't do their bit for defence hours before ˜ ying in to meet prime minister Shinzo Abe. And yes, he rocked up to the demilitarised zone (DMZ) separating North and South Korea to rekindle his bromance with roly-poly psy- chopath Kim Jong-un, admiring the DMZ for being an e‡ ective "wall". But where once the chattering classes would have stood open-mouthed in horror, last week it was a collective "meh". Worse, the prez was upstaged by daughter Ivanka, whose relentless photobomb- ing at the G20 summit leœ the leaders of the free and not- so-free world outraged. The video of Ivanka elbowing her way into a tete-a-tete between Theresa May, Emmanuel Macron and Christine Lagarde (of the IMF) is priceless. It prompted the hashtag UTILITY WEEK | 5TH - 11TH JULY 2019 | 31
