20 | 21ST - 27TH JUNE 2019 | UTILITY WEEK High viz Wessex Water is working with Natu- ral England during the expansion and upgrade of Thornford Water Recycling Centre, which is at an old quarry and landfill site in Dorset. Troll Quarry is a site of special sci- entific interest, and archaeological adviser Dr Robert Chandler, of the Nat- ural History Museum in London, has been keeping an eye on excavations. Wessex Water's environmental team relocated a number of slow worms, which are legally protected, before biofilm reactors were installed. Also, they protected a bat roost and designed the scheme to avoid any impact on a nearby railway line. Enlargement of the site has pro- vided an opportunity to examine rocks in situ.
