22 | 7TH - 13TH JUNE 2019 | UTILITY WEEK High viz Western Power Distribution has started work on a £6 million scheme that serves Cadbury's factory at Alex- andra Road, Bournville. The project involves replacing four grid transform- ers, 132kV circuit breakers and other 132kV equipment, along with all the 11kV switchgear. The site is steeped in local history. The Bournville substation was one of the first to be built in Birmingham in 1920. WPD must preserve the original substation building, which holds his- torical and sentimental value for local residents. The project, which should be completed in 2022, also involves dismantling and rebuilding sections of the 5m-high, 50m-long boudary wall to access each of the existing transformers.
