The company achieved record turnover in 2018, when it worked with 12 UK water companies as well as the main industry regulators and river trusts. It has helped the industry identify responses to issues such as invasive non-native species, has recognised the importance of the natural capital approach and river restoration, and has also employed technological solutions including aerial surveys and digital data collection. Winner: HOGEN SYSTEMS, BALFOUR BEATTY UK AND GENQUIP GROUNDHOG This joint initiative has brought together water generation and recovery technologies, using renewable energy sources, to provide water for static or mobile welfare units used in the construction industry. It involved assembling an atmospheric water generation system, which supplies drinking water made from the air; a rainwater collection and treatment system, which supplies water for hand-washing, showers and flushing toilets; and the use of renewable energy sources for power. End-user Balfour Beatty specified the requirements for the units and set sustainability targets, Hogen Systems designed the atmospheric drinking water generator, and GroundHog manufactured the units, building on its history of innovation and sustainability. Water Industry Consultant of the Year What the judges said: "This is a really cool, innovative project that has broken new ground – a mobile unit that could be deployed in lots of contexts. It's a sustainability breakthrough that is well worth the award." What the judges said: "APEM provided good evidence of the benefits they brought clients and the environment."
