With the commissioning of its 84th
and final 7MW Siemens Gamesa
turbine on 15 May, Scotland's largest
offshore windfarm has been com-
pleted on time and under budget a•er
three years of construction.
The 588MW Beatrice windfarm in
the Outer Moray Firth, around 13km
off the coast of Caithness, is a joint
venture between SSE Renewables
(40 per cent), Copenhagen Infrastruc-
ture Partners (35 per cent) and Red
Rock Power (25 per cent).
Each turbine stretches 188m from
sea level to blade tip – the equivalent
of three Nelson's Columns – and is
supported on jacket foundations.
Weighing around 1,000 tonnes each,
the piled foundations sit at record
water depths of over 56m.
