The framework win should help VolkerStevin build on the positive results it has enjoyed in recent years, with the last available year of accounts showing a 13 per cent increase in turnover and a pre-tax profit rise of 54 per cent. The company provides complex engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors including maritime, flood risk management, water, energy, land remediation and regeneration and general civil engineering. It is part of VolkerWessels UK, an £850 million turnover group that brings together five business units to collaborate across multidisciplinary projects. Its most significant water company client during AMP6 has been United Utilities, which it has been serving via the C2V+ joint venture along with CH2M. C2V+ is one of four construction delivery partners (CDPs) in place until 2020, working within a design-and- construct framework and covering the full spectrum of works for both water and wastewater. The contract, which could be further extended to 2026, covers multidisciplinary activities including design, project management, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance of water & waste water treatment works, pipelines, pumping stations, reservoirs and mechanical and electrical installations. Some of the company's recent water projects include Allonby Water Treatment Works, Anchorsholme Park phase 1, the Preston Outfall and the Mersey Valley Sludge Pipeline. Volkerstevin has an in-house MEICA team to co-ordinate the design, specification and procurement of all process, mechanical and electrical equipment and provide support to the experienced site construction teams during installation. VEOLIA UK 210 Pentonville Road London N1 9JY Tel: 0207 812 5000 www.veolia.co.uk Veolia's water operations – spread across a range of individual companies – proved profitable overall in 2017 despite Veolia Water UK recording an operating loss of £7.9 million. The company has made the move away from design-and- build work to focus on water tech and water management services in recent years, and its offering to the sector includes smart water systems and services, water and wastewater treatment, and water and wastewater plant optimisation. With clients including Anglian Water and Scottish Water, Veolia currently optimises treatment and generates clean energy for 30 water and wastewater sites in the UK, treating nearly 80,000 tonnes of sludge each year and close to 900 million cubic metres of wastewater every day. Worldwide, Veolia operates more than 8,000 water and wastewater sites and uses that experience to benchmark how processes Veolia continues tech and optimisation focus and assets should be performing. "Globally, we know what 'good' looks like," Tony McKenna, Veolia's head of business development and optimisation services in the UK, told WET News earlier this year. Veolia continues to expand its offering. In 2018, Veolia Water Technologies announced the launch of Aquavista, a suite of digital services that can be used across potable water, wastewater and process water to bring benefits including saving water, optimising chemical dosing, reducing maintenance and maximising equipment lifecycles. The technology company also offers a vast array of water and wastewater treatment solutions, including thermal hydrolysis, MBBRs, desalination and ultrafiltration. Last year, Veolia announced the launch of BioTrading, a cross-industry trading platform for bioresources including sewage and sludge, which Raquel Carrasco, organics and technology director at Veolia UK, described as "the missing link for the UK's organic resources".
