AECOM

Global infrastructure services
firm AECOM has concentrated its
UK water business on
professional consultancy for the
last two years, and the approach
has paid off, with sales and
profits heading in the right
direction.
The company has been able
to concentrate on high value
work and be selective, partnering
with water companies and
contractors on key projects and
providing asset management
services.
In December, AECOM
secured a contract with J.
Murphy & Sons as lead designer
for the £55 million North Bristol
Relief Sewer, the 6.5km tunnel
for Wessex Water that will link
the Frome Valley Relief Sewer
with the Bristol Trunk Sewer,
reducing flood risk and increasing
stormwater storage capacity to
accommodate ongoing and
future developments in Bristol
and South Gloucestershire. It will
be the latest in a string of
nationally significant projects
the company has worked on,
such as the Thames Tideway
Tunnel and the Deephams STW
upgrade for Thames Water.
It has worked as part of the
Caledonia Water Alliance for
Scottish Water, alongside
Morrison Utility Services, and as
part of the AMK joint venture for
Thames Water, with Murphy and
Kier.
In March, AECOM appointed
Mark Southwell as its new MD of
civil infrastructure for the UK
and Ireland, responsible for the
water business plus its transport,
ports and power teams.
"In fiscal year 2018, we set
numerous new records, further
honed our strategy and took
important steps forward that
provide a strong foundation for
the future," chairman and chief
executive Michael Burke said.
"We have invested in our people
and our capabilities to assemble
leading franchises that deliver
unparalleled engineering, design
construction management and
government services solutions
for our clients and the
communities we serve."
