With so many changes taking place in the energy system no one knows exactly what the network of the future is going to look like. This is clearly a very exciting time to be working in the industry - gone are the days of essentially maintaining the system and keeping it running. The changes we'll see in the next 10 to 20 years are mind boggling and will provide ample opportunities for innovation, new businesses and systems. This means that there is great responsibility bestowed upon people working in the sector as ultimately, they'll be leaving a legacy for many years to come. We've identi• ed eight key trends which we'll be keeping a focus on. They are: Digitalisation Decentralisation Decarbonisation of transport Decarbonisation of heat Transition to DSO Paying for the networks Localised energy Future of „ exibility You can read more about the central theme and Network's plans to cover these key trends on page eight. Don't forget to join us in Birmingham on 26 March at Netwo rk 2019. The daytime Network Forum features three streams: future networks; „ exible networks; low carbon transformation of transport – so you can be sure that there's something for everyone. At night, delegates will be able to celebrate the sector's excellence at the Network Awards. The events are taking place at the National Conference Centre and at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole respectively. I'm looking forward to seeing a number of you there and raising a glass to the future. For further information visit https://future.networks.online be sure that there's something for everyone.
