SHARQIYAH March 2019 Water. desalination + reuse On Site15 PROJECT NEWS Nine answer RfQ for Barka/ North Al Batinah Oman Power and Water Procurement has received nine requests for qualifi cation from international players on its Barka/ North Al Batinah desalination project in October 2018. The project is for two desalination plants, one of 150,000 m3/d at North Al Batinha, and at Barka, a facility of 100,000 m3/d. The fi rms are: Acwa Power; Cobra Instalaciones Y Servicio; China Geo-Engineering Corp. Branch, with Al Fairuz Trading & Contracting, and Hyfl ux; International Power SA (IPSA); GS Inima; Suez International; Valoriza Agua; Veolia Middle East; and Utico, with FCC Aqualia, Majis Industrial Service. Eight fi rms pre- qualify for Al Ghubrah III Eight international fi rms pre-qualifi ed for Al Ghubrah III independent power and water project, Oman, in August 2018. Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) released the list of pre-quals adding that a request for proposals will be issued "in the upcoming months". The desalination project covers a 300,000 m3/d capacity plant in Al Ghubrah, Muscat. The scope of work comprises development, fi nancing, design, engineering, construction, ownership, and operations and maintenance, and will include construction of new seawater intake and outfall structures, and a reservoir to be owned and operated by Oman's Public Authority for Electricity and Water. Project completion is slated for 2022. The prequalifi ed companies are: Cobra Instalaciones Y Servicio, with FCC Aqualia, and Majis Industrial Services; GS Inima Environment; International Company for Water and Power Projects (ACWA Power); International Power; Marubeni Corporation; Sembcorp Utilities; Suez International; and Sumitomo Corporation with Malakoff International. OPWP awards BOT contract on Sharqiyah Japanese engineers JGC Corporation won a build, own, and operate contract for a desalination plant in Oman, with Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction as contractor, in July 2018. The project will be constructed, and then operated over 20 years, by special purpose vehicle Al Asilah Desalination Company, of which JGC Corp owns 75 per cent; 20 per cent is owned by United Infrastructure Development Company (UIDC), a unit of Bahwan Engineering Group, Oman; and Doosan holds 5 per cent. The contract is for a seawater reverse osmosis plant of 80,000 m3/d situated in Sharqiyah, south of Omani capital Muscat, to complete by April 2021. The off -taker is Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP). The total project cost of JPY 20 billion ($180 million) will be fi nanced partly by MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, and Shinsei Bank. JGC Corp stated that it was selected for "innovations in energy reduction and ability to keep low the unit cost of the water produced." BARKA ZONE The Barka Zone is part of the Main Interconnected Sys- tem (MIS), serving the Governorates of Batinah South and Ad Dakhiliyah with desalinated water from Barka IWPP and Barka II IWPP SOHAR ZONE Serves the Governorates of Batinah North and Al Buraymi, and from 2020 Ad Dhairah. Its desalination plant is Sohar IWPP. SHARIQYAH WATER NETWORK Serves the northeastern region of the governorate of Ash Sharqiyah South. The desalination plant is Sur II WIP.
