18 WET NEWS MARCH 2019 | wwtonline.co.uk A VK and Viking Johnson have announced that they have been awarded a place on Yorkshire Water's mechanical ttings framework for AMP7. Although Yorkshire Water has used AVK for many years, this is the rst formal contrac- tual award, and will see the company supply mechanical t- tings including tensile-resistant ttings, under-pressure tees, repair ttings and end caps. Graham Charnley, AVK's national sales manager, said he believes the award is down to AVK's long-term commitment to product development, the € exi- bility of its logistics oƒ ering and the breadth of technical support it is able to provide. P lastic and clay pipes man- ufacturer Wavin UK has bolstered its commitment to achieving more sustainable operations by awarding its energy contract to Ørsted. The manufacturer, which produces essential plumbing and drainage systems across four UK sites, has appointed renewable energy specialists Ørsted to supply natural gas and 100 per cent renewable electricity energy from April 2019. The renewable electricity will come from Ørsted's 11 operational UK wind farms and is certi ed by REGOs (Renewable Energy A partnership between man- ufacturer Power Plastics and technical fabrics group Rivertex has produced a new polymer fabric with full Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) approval. Water industry users can bring the new material into their supply chain in the form of sludge cones, ba• e curtains, tank liners and water bags. Rivertex APO Powerplas took four years to develop, and cost the companies more than £25,000 to complete the rigor- ous DWI testing and approval process. It is a non-toxic, two-layer polymer with an internal scrim weave that achieves far greater tear strength than other thicker, heavier materials but with greater € exibility and a struc- ture that resists delamination. As a result, it can quickly and accurately be assembled oƒ -site, signi cantly reducing the personnel, equipment and Viking Johnson, meanwhile, revealed it was awarded mechanical ttings framework contracts Lot 1 (up to 300mm) and Lot 2 (above 350mm) for a further ve years. The range of ttings includes couplings, € ange adaptors, under pressure tees and repair clamps, for diƒ erent pipe mate- rials including ductile iron, steel, PE and PVC. Paul Holmes, national sales manager for VJ, said: "We are pleased to have secured this contract with Yorkshire Water, having worked closely with them for several years and developed a good working rela- tionship with their contractors, which is combined with a dependable product solution." Guarantees of Origin) – o¢ cial validation that each kWh of energy is provided by a renew- able source. The new energy supply will see Wavin reduce its CO2 emissions by 13.7 tonnes a year. Philip Swancott, category manager for services at Wavin, said: "For Wavin, sustainabil- ity has become a driver for value creation. Ultimately, we want to deliver products that meet our own sustainability demands and those of our cus- tomer, the government and society. "Ørsted was a clear choice to be our supplier following a robust procurement process." time spent at the location. It can also be safely fabricated using HF welding without creat- ing toxic fumes. Welds follow CAD and CNC precision to create accurate, t- rst-time products. Rivertex APO Powerplas also achieves excellent chemical/UV resistance along with long-term water contact compatibility, and € oats without the need for buoyancy aids. Every product can be installed by Power Plas- tics staƒ , all of whom are Blue Card-trained. Rivertex managing director Guy Lynch said: "This was a very exciting project, and we had to face many failures on the journey. But that makes it even more satisfying to have over- come all the challenges and pro- duce a pioneering material which we believe will be a game-changer." In addition to its DWI approval, Rivertex APO Powerp- las is also WRAS certi ed and meets BS6920. WHAT IS IT? Needle valves, sometimes referred to as plunger valves, enable engineers to • nely control flows. This precision is achieved through the • ne movement on the needle/plunger, which enables the gearbox to open or close the internal sleeve in small and accurate increments to the desired position. WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT IT? AVK needle valves are designed to o„ er very precise control. They require very low operating torques as they are always in hydraulic balance – meaning there are equal and opposite forces at play internally at all valve positions – which signi• cantly reduces actuator and gearbox costs. The focus is on durability and reliability, with the sturdy valve housing made of either stainless steel for or ductile iron coated with fusion-bonded epoxy. The high- quality materials mean a long service life with easy maintenance access. WHAT DO THEY SAY? AVK technical manager Greg Morris says: "We actively encourage customers and prospects to take advantage of our technical know-how and practical experience when specifying needle valves. We can advise on the size of valve needed as well as whether any of the optional extras, such as anti-cavitation devices, are required. As an example, the engineer can also add an electrical actuator to the valve to enable it to function automatically as a self-regulating device." Valworx PVC diaphragm valves Valworx has introduced a new line of pneumatic PVC Diaphragm Valves, featuring a high-flow, weir-style body design and especially suited for abrasive or dirty fluids. The valves, sized from 0.5-2", come in in EPDM, PTFE, and FPM materials. Valworx 5245 True Union PVC diaphragm valves are typically used for on-o„ control of abrasive or liquids with suspended solids and other media compatible with the materials of construction. The spring return (normally closed) actuators use air pressure to open the valve and springs or pistons to close. Compressed air must be • ltered dry or lubricated. There is full isolation of mechanical parts from the fluid path – only the diaphragm and valve body contact the fluid media. The linear sealing motion provides linear flow control characteristics. Bonomi Valpres range Valve specialist Bonomi (UK) has extended its range of Valpres products with the introduction of new Stainless Steel (723100) and Carbon Steel (724100) 2-way flanged direct mount wafer pattern ball valves. Featuring an ISO 5211 Direct Mounting pad that allows actuators to mount straight on to the valve, the new wafer ball valve eliminates the requirement for an additional valve mounting kit. Operational within a temperature range of between -20°C to +160°C and available in sizes 1" to 4", these full-bore flanged ball valves (PN16 or ANSI 150) are available in stainless steel CF8M or carbon steel LCB and supplied complete with antistatic device. Each wafer pattern ball valve can be supplied fully assembled with either a pneumatic or electric actuator from Bonomi's Valbia range. Rotork CMA range Rotork has extended its CMA range of compact modulating actuators with new sizes speci• cally designed for reliable automation of larger linear control valves. The new actuator is capable of a maximum 4,500 lbf (20 kN) seating thrust. The new sizes increase the CMA range modulating thrust performance to 3,000 lbf (13 kN) with a 114.3mm (4.5") stroke length for the automation of larger valves with higher pressure ratings. The combined performance of the CMA and the larger CVA ranges enables Rotork's innovative electrical control valve actuation technologies to be applied to process control applications of virtually any size and description. CMAs are robust enough to handle extreme temperature swings, corrosive environments and are also available for explosion-proof areas.
