A unique design option of the
Stanton Bonna Watertight
Manhole base eliminates any
cascading between main inlet
and outlet pipe. Where the
main inlet pipe is a smaller
diameter to the main outlet
pipe, the base design includes
a tapered channel from one to
the other, which also results in
improved flow. Other manhole
base designs allow effluent to
cascade into the channel,
which disrupts flow and can
lead to a build-up of solids.
Inlet pipes can also be
positioned at any point within
the base wall unlike some
other precast base designs that
can be a compromise of fixed
angular positions.
The benefits achieved are
due to the use of the state-of-the-
art Poly Robot. This ensures the
base channel design and pipe
entry positions are honed to a
precise poly former profile in
around 45 minutes. This used to
take between five to seven days
from external suppliers.
Using a precast manhole
base is found to achieve a 30 to
43 per cent lower carbon
footprint compared to
traditional, box-based and
plastic manholes. This is due
to a number of factors
including installation without
the need for a concrete
surround, resulting in less
waste and fewer lorry journeys.
The Stanton Bonna
Watertight system achieves
watertight joints with an
incorporated elastomeric
gasket and a sealed cover slab.
Push-fit elastomeric seals
for inlet and outlet pipes result
in quicker installation to
connecting pipelines. The
flexibility of the pipe connec-
tion seals allow up to a further
2 degree deflection on inlet
and outlet pipe positions. The
Stanton Bonna Watertight
Manhole system is manufac-
tured to comply with BS EN
1917:2002 and BS 5911-3 and
complies with Sewers for
Adoption 7 (2012).
