The largest solar panel rooop instal-
lation in the Baltic States has opened
on the rooop of a packaging factory
in Lentvaris, around 10km from the
Lithuanian capital, Vilnius.
The 1.4MW solar installation cov-
ers 1.46 hectares – about the size of
two football pitches – and is sited on
the manufacturing facility of plastics
maker Retal.
The energy produced by the pan-
els has helped Lithuania to meet the
EU's 2020 renewable energy target (for
member states to source 20 percent
of all their energy requirements from
renewable sources) one year early.
Renewable energy is now Retal's
principal source of electricity. The
government hopes that the installa-
tion of a solar roof on its factory will
