L evel and flow measure- ment specialist Pulsar Pro- cess Measurement Ltd has been acquired by ONICON Inc, part of the Harbour Group, for an undisclosed sum. Pulsar designs and manu- factures ultrasonic and radar based non-contact level and flow measurement instruments which are widely used in the water industry. Pulsar's prod- ucts provide level, volume, open channel flow, pipe flow, sludge interference measure- ment and pump control instru- mentation solutions to water utilities an industrial custom- ers worldwide. The company was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Malvern, Worcestershire. John Norris, president and CEO of ONICON, said: "Pulsar has a very strong brand, entrenched market position within water and wastewater, and extraordinary ultrasonic measurement capabilities. We are excited to work with the Pulsar team and see tremen- dous growth opportunities for the combined business." A s part of their ongoing pre-Brexit strategy plan- ning, sewage and waste- water pumps and systems spe- cialist Pump Technology Ltd. has just received the first of many deliveries from Jung Pumpen, one of its many Euro- pean suppliers. This is part of the compa- ny's plan to build up 'huge' stocks to reassure customers that they will be able to meet demand for any pump or sys- tem in their range whatever happens in the coming months with Brexit. Pump Technology, which M anufacturer of environ- mental monitoring and remediation equipment QED Environmental Systems has announced a strategic part- nership with Germany-based Siegrist GmbH. Siegrist is a long-estab- lished company from Karls- ruhe, Germany, that has been providing advanced gas meas- uring technology and environ- mental engineering to a global market place for over 30 years. The company has been designing and distributing meas- uring devices for toxic gases, radi- oactive, explosive and hazardous materials, for work place monitor- ing, process analytics and civil protection under the motto "Sign of Safety". Pulsar's co-founder and managing director, Keith Beard, added: "We are excited to partner with ONICON and believe their reputation in market, strong product offer- ing, and diversification will further enhance the Pulsar brand and business. We believe our engineering, mar- ket presence and product suite will further complement the ONICON business, specifically in water and wastewater mar- kets. We are also excited to lev- erage Onicon's presence in North America to grow our business. In addition to part- nering with ONICON, Harbour Group's operational expertise will ensure we have the foun- dation to capitalize on the opportunities in front of us." Florida-based ONICON Inc. has been in the flow measure- ment business since 1987, designing and manufacturing flow meters and energy meas- urement systems including turbine, vortex, electromag- netic, thermal mass, and ultra- sonic meters as well as BTU meters and display modules. promotes itself as a "One Stop Pump Shop", has been servic- ing the industry for over 26 years and pride themselves on their ability to identify and supply almost any product on a next day delivery basis. "We always answer the phone personally and have built up our reputation for helpful and knowledgeable advice combined with next day, cost effective supply," MD Jon Barker said. "This massive upli£ in stockholding will ensure that we can continue to support the market in the com- ing months". Siegrist has gained a repu- tation for its high-tech envi- ronmental monitoring and measuring technologies and solutions. Its expertise in the design and distribution of products within the areas of anaerobic digestion, landfill and biogas in particular will facilitate QED's long-term vision of serving a global mar- ket place. "With shared objectives and complementary compe- tencies, we will be able to provide our customers with the best and will offer the market a unique blend of pro- ficiency and advanced prod- ucts unlike any other," Paul Gooch, global sales and mar- keting director at QED, said. WHAT IS IT? A new, compact, high-efficiency adaptation of Xylem's TurboMAX blower, suitable for lower airflow requirements at wastewater treatment facilities. It can deliver energy reductions of up to 40 per cent compared to traditional Positive Displacement (PD) blowers. WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT IT? The blower's high- speed motor comes equipped with enhanced airfoil bearings to eliminate vibration, providing up to 15 years of normal operating conditions before a bearing overhaul may be required. Its permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is capable of achieving high rotational speeds with no slip or mechanical losses during operation. The five-axis impeller, machined from solid forged aluminium, is also directly connected to the blower's motor shaft, resulting in zero transmission losses, while the centrifugal technology eliminates low-frequency pulsating flow of the impeller, ensuring less noise transmission. It has user-friendly controls, including a Variable Frequency Drive, Mi-Com controller with six operational modes, and colour touchscreen HMI for adjustment of parameters. WHAT DO THEY SAY? Xylem's Magnus Spens says: "Suitable for lower airflow requirements, the compact Sanitaire TurboLIGHT comes equipped with advanced centrifugal technology to offer unparalleled efficiency at a cost-effective price point – providing faster payback on investment than most blower technologies on the market." Sulzer HSR turbocompressors The HSR line of high-speed turbocompressors is designed for the production of oil-free pressur- ised air in applications where contamination of the air must be avoided. The HSR utilises high-performance turbo and magnetic bearing technology that maximises efficiency and minimises the need for maintenance. The key benefit is that it contains no oil at all, which means 100 per cent safe compressed air for processes where no contamination is allowed. Such applications are included for example in the production of fibrous materials, manufacturing of pharmaceutical products, and in the food and beverage industries. A key technological choice is the use of active magnetic bearings that bring the benefit of no mechanical friction and no mechanical wear. Hydra-Cell Intelligent Pump Wanner International's Hydra-Cell Intelligent Pump is designed for lower total cost of ownership by reducing maintenance and service costs by up to 80 per cent over its lifespan. It could also save up to 13,500kWh in energy per year. One of the principle applications will be in truck cleaning in the construction industry. With its seal-less design, it reliably handles recycled/grey water, high liquid temperatures of up to 120°C and works without forced lubrication. The pump also works without the wear and maintenance a plunger pump would suffer under the same conditions. The Intelligent Pump can also handle aggressive, corrosive and large-particle fluids such as sodium hydroxide, acids and citrus based solvents, proving itself to be effective for high-pres- sure cleaning. Allweiler GmbH OptiFix pump The OptiFix pump provides a new choice of progressing cavity pumps for OEMs and specifiers of industrial wastewater treatment applications. The pump can be disassembled in five steps, and eliminates the need to dismantle it from piping to change the rotor, stator, joints or shaft seal. Designed to deliver superior speed and efficiency, OptiFix's easy exchange design is optimised for safe and streamlined inspections, parts removal and service operations. In wastewater treatment service, OptiFix can reduce mean time to repair intervals by as much as 85 per cent and boost pump service life by up to 500 per cent when combined with CIRCOR's patented ALLDUR stator solution. OptiFix also offers a leak-resistant ATLS-T1V sensor to detect dry-running conditions before they do damage.
