18 | 25TH - 31ST JANUARY 2019 | UTILITY WEEK High viz The risk of floods at the Port Clarence and Greatham South area in the north of England has been reduced aer the completion of the second and final phase of the £16 million Greatham South flood alleviation scheme. A catastrophic breach of flood defences in 2013 caused millions of pounds of damage to industry and homes in Port Clarence village. The Environment Agency commis- sioned the BAM Nuttall Mott MacDon- ald joint venture (JV) to improve flood embankments at Greatham South to protect 350 homes and 32 businesses. Aer a successful initial design phase, the JV was re-commissioned in early 2017 to provide further detailed design support and construction.
