BUSINESS Degrémont to run all Perth's water and wastewater France's Degrémont, which built the first Perth desalination plant in 2006, is to operate and maintain all the Western Australian city's water and wastewater assets for 10 years with a possible 5-year extension. This will include two advanced water recycling plants as well as 13 dams, 19 water treatment plants and 14 wastewater treatment plants. The company already has a 25-year contract to operate and maintain the 45 million m3/year Kwinana desalination plant. The contract, which will start in July 2012, is valued at € 294 million over the initial term. Degrémont, Transfield Services and Water Corporation will form an integrated alliance which will be named Aroona. Ghallilah contracts for X-Flow and ERI Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes and skids are to be supplied to the 15 MIGD (68,000 m³/d) seawater reverse osmosis plant at Ghallilah, Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, by Pentair X-Flow. The company received an order from Aquatech Eastern (FZE) desalination contractor for the Federal Electricity & Water Authority. The plant, scheduled to be operational in late 2013, has an estimated UF permeate capacity of 7,125 m3/h on a continuous basis and will provide drinking water to the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. Aquatech has also awarded Energy Recovery Inc (ERI) a contract for provision of energy-recovery devices for the Ghalilah plant. ERI expects to ship its PX Pressure Exchanger devices to Aquatech in the current year to facilitate the scheduled completion in 2013. VA Tech Wabag wins industrial reuse plant in Gujarat Ultrafiltration (UF), reverse-osmosis (RO) and a membrane bioreactor (MBR) will all be part of a 32,420 m3/d effluent treatment and recycling plant to be built in India by Chennai-based VA Tech Wabag. The company was chosen by Reliance Industries Ltd for the treatment plant to serve its proposed PTA & PET Manufacturing Plant in Dahej, Gujarat, coNtract BrIEFS ____ For more details, visit www.desalination.biz __ which will also be a tertiary treatment plant for the Reliance Hazira Complex. Contract value was Rs 2.7 billion (US$ 48.7 million). The facility will have anaerobic treatment using an upflow anerobic sludge blanket, followed by aerobic treatment using MBR technology. The recycling facility will then use UF and RO, and its output will be reused in the Dahej complex. X-Flow to trEat SaUdI hoSpItal waStEwatEr Pentair X-Flow's Airlift™ MBR Megablock ultrafiltration (UF) system is to treat 8,000 m³/d of hospital wastewater at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The company's contract with Suido Kiko Middle East will start in April 2013. It includes the supply of four Megablocks with a total of 288 UF membrane modules. The treated wastewater will be used for irrigation. BaBcock BorSIg to rENovatE dIStIllErS Babcock Borsig Service Kuwait has been awarded an € 8.5 million (US$ 10.6 million) contract to repair and replace three 6 MIGD (27,000 m3/d) desalination distillation units at the Shuwaikh Power & Distillation Station in Kuwait.The project, for the Ministry of Electricity & Water, includes design, procurement, manufacturing, supply of parts and material dismantling, refurbishment, testing, commissioning and maintenance for a 3-year period. | 10 | Desalination & Water Reuse | August-September 2012 Amiad disc filters to protect Ashdod ultrafiltration Amiad Water Systems has won a US$ 1.67 million contract to provide an Arkal Super Galaxy automatic disc filtration system (SpinKlin ® ) for the protection of ultrafiltration membranes at the Mekorot Group's Ashdod Desalination Plant, which will be one of the largest in Israel. The contract was awarded by IVM Minrav Sadyt: a consortium including Minrav Holdings, an Israeli infrastructure company, and SADYT, a Spanish construction business. Mekorot Development Enterprise Ltd, a subsidiary of Mekorot, Israel's national water company, will plan, build and operate the plant. Electro-precipitation technology tackles oil/gas wastewater Florida-based Latitude Solutions Inc has contracted Harley Dome LLC to deploy its proprietary Electro-PrecipitationTM water remediation technology at the Harley Dome Waste Water Facility in Westwater, Utah. Harley Dome is a full-service wastewater processing facility. The agreement consists of a fee per barrel processed for the provisioning of the equipment. aqUatEch wINS Zld joB IN tUrkmENIStaN Aquatech has been awarded a contract to design and supply a zero-liquid discharge wastewater-recycle system in a gas-field development project in Turkmenistan. The plant capacity is 120 m3/h, and the system is designed to operate the outdoor equipment in an ambient condition of minus 28ºC. The plant is expected to be completed in one year. vwS BUyS INgE UF modUlES VWS Westgarth has awarded a contract to BASF subsidiary inge GmbH for 600 dizzer® ultrafiltration (UF) modules for an oil rig. The modules have been ordered for a 62,000 m3/d UF system. rEUSE coNtract awardEd By haya Oman's Haya Water awarded a RO 26.7 million (US$ 69.6 million) contract on 21 May 2012 to Contractors Union Co to construct the second phase of a water-reuse project in the Al Qurum and Madinat Al Ilam areas in Muscat Governorate.
