14 WET NEWS JANUARY 2019 | wwtonline.co.uk W ater technology com- pany Xylem is launch- ing a campaign aimed at helping breweries manage their wastewater more e ciently while also improving the quality of water, and therefore beer. With its "You take care of the beer, we take care of the water" campaign, Xylem is keen to sup- port brewers across the UK and Ireland. Xylem Water Solutions o ers a range of technologies relevant to the brewery market from water supply to wastewater treatment. Products for pre-treatment include the Lowara Series Z multistage pumps for breweries that have their own reserve of drinking water and are con- nected to springs or deep wells, extracting from depths as low as S ystems integration special- ist Servelec Controls has con… rmed a successful management buy-out, led by managing director Andrew Mills and backed by private equity … rm Alcuin Capital Partners. Mills and the management team will now lead the business in its future strategy, with the goal of transforming the company into a robust, standalone entity and a market leader in systems ntegration. The development means that Servelec Controls will no longer be part of the Servelec Group, which was recently taken private from its previous Stock Exchange listing on the D etectronic has joined the Worldwide Industrial Telemetry Standards (WITS) group. The group aims to help util- ity companies become more e - cient by encouraging co-operation between utilities and engineers in external supplier organisations. It continues to combine the strength, knowledge, skills and in' uence of the water industry to continually improve telemetry technology and service. Detectronic's Neil Butler says: "By working with WITS we will be in a position to imple- ment the WITS-DNP3 protocol used by UK utility companies. The˜WITS-DNP3˜protocol de… nes 700 metres. The Wedeco certi- … ed UV water puri… cation sys- tems treat water e ciently and e ectively, and Lowara centrifu- gal pumps circulate water through to the brew house in the hot area of the brewery. Jab- sco units also have the capabil- ity of hygienically and e - ciently handling liquids with di erent viscosity levels, while Lobe displacement pumps are used in the ' avouring process, and provide correct dosing.˜ Paul Winnett, general man- ager, industry, says: "We have a broad range of process water expertise here at Xylem. Our customers bene… t from working with us as a single supplier for all products and services relat- ing to the management of water inside the industry." LSE main market. Mills said: "We are in a fairly unique position, active in growing niche markets where operational excellence and enhanced safety is imper- ative. We are excited to be in control of delivering exactly what our business and cus- tomers need. This develop- ment will enable us to ensure that all our systems and pro- cesses are aligned to the industries in which we operate and we are con… dent that this new chapter in the company's development will be bene… cial to both our customers and sta , allowing us to deliver on our ambitions." a standard method to achieve the utility industry telemetry control and monitoring require- ments, in particular˜ interopera- bility˜ between equipment from di erent manufacturers.˜ The standard de… nes how to satisfy utility industry speci… c functional requirements using features of the˜DNP3˜protocol. "Ensuring speci… c products within our ' ow and quality measurement and monitoring range achieve the WITS-DNP3 protocol will facilitate both operational versatility and appeal for utilities looking for ' ow meters to integrate directly into their existing systems." WHAT IS IT? GPS PE Pipe Systems has launched Excel White, a purpose- designed pipe system for transporting water in above ground applications. Expanding its PE pipe systems portfolio, GPS is launching Excel White in response to market feedback. While the majority of PE pipes for water applications are buried underground, there are certain applications, such as when pipe needs to cross rivers, or for hydro projects, that require pipe to be installed above ground. When exposed to sunlight, traditional black PE materials can expand in the heat, impacting operational performance, so currently thicker pipe walls are speci‡ ed to cater for this expansion. WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT IT? Excel White sees the co-extrusion of white and black PE100 to provide a white outer skin on the pipe, which reflects sunlight and provides signi‡ cantly lower solar radiation absorption levels. The lower surface temperature that is maintained reduces thermal stress and expansion and allows a thinner pipe wall to be used, o‰ ering considerable cost savings. WHAT THEY SAY: GPS product manager Sophia Zhang says: "Continually looking to enhance and improve our o‰ ering for customers, we have launched Excel White as an improved solution for above- ground applications, providing customers with not only an improved product performance, but also reduced costs." ITM Monitoring updates Calyx OMS ITM Monitoring, a SOCOTEC Company, has released a new version of its data visualisation platform, Calyx Online Monitor- ing Software (OMS). The platform, used in both construc- tion and asset management, provides a user-friendly interface to view site conditions via desktop, smartphone or tablet. The updated version provides additional functionality and flexibility, improving user experience within the fea- ture-rich platform. Designed in close cooperation with experi- enced engineers and ITM's clients, Calyx o‰ ers a us- er-friendly graphical interface for quick and easy interpretation of large amounts of instrumenta- tion data from multiple sources, regardless of project scale. Rotork CMA range Rotork has extended its CMA range of compact modulating actuators with new sizes speci‡ cally designed for reliable automation of larger linear control valves. The new actuator is capable of a maximum 4,500 lbf (20 kN) seating thrust. The new sizes increase the CMA range modulating thrust performance to 3,000 lbf (13 kN) with a 114.3 mm (4.5") stroke length for the automation of larger valves with higher pressure ratings. The combined performance of the CMA and the larger CVA ranges enables Rotork's innovative electrical control valve actuation technologies to be applied to process control applications of virtually any size and description. CMAs are a low-power solution which are robust enough to handle extreme temperature swings, corrosive environments and are also available for explosionproof areas FloSTEM meter shield Developed in association with SES Water, the FloSTEM meter shield is designed to allow water companies to provide full-flow water on a temporary basis to new or existing 'empty' properties. It is installed in place of a water meter when the mains water supply for the property is connected. New occupiers will have 'temporary' access to full flow volumes of 250l with unrestricted flow rates. When this amount is exceeded, the shield trips and triggers a trickle valve. The shield is intended to limit the unauthorised use of water while providing speedy supply for new commercial and domestic customers. It can be used to aid recovery of debt from unpaid bills. Installation into a property where the occupier fails to pay the bills will provide temporary access to water but they will experience the inconvenience of resetting the device.
