K windfarms generated a
record amount of electricity last
week when official figures from
National Grid recorded that Britain's
onshore and offshore windfarms hit
14.9GW between 6.00pm and 6.30pm
on Wednesday 27 November.
This breaks the previous record of
14.5GW set earlier in the same month
and represented 33 per cent of the
country's demand at the time
National Grid said that overall on
that Wednesday, wind generated 32.2
per cent of Britain's electricity, ahead
of gas at 23.5 per cent. Nuclear sup-
plied 17.9 per cent, coal 8.7 per cent,
biomass 8 per cent, imports 7.8 per
cent and hydro 1.7 per cent.
