I rish Water has awarded the contract for the design, construction and commissioning of a new covered storage reservoir at Stillorgan to J. Murphy & Sons Ltd. Construction is set to begin in early 2019 on the project, which will see an investment of approximately €80 million on the new reservoir as a long- term measure to protect and improve the water quality. The project is part of a €200 million investment in the Vartry Water Supply Scheme and is expected to be completed in 2022. The existing Stillorgan Reservoir has supplied drinking water to the community for over 150 years. The reservoir is one of the last remaining of its kind in Europe, where treated drinking water is leŠ exposed to the Murphy gets contract to carry out Stillorgan Reservoir upgrade elements, leaving it vulnerable to the risk of contamination from wildlife, animal waste or airborne material and could be polluted by people accessing the water. John Prendeville, project manager with Irish Water, said: "The upgrade of the Stillorgan Reservoir to covered storage is a priority for Irish Water. I am pleased to confirm that a contract has been awarded to commence work on this vital project. "The Stillorgan Reservoir has served the community for over 150 years, and this project will ensure that Irish ' Irish Water to invest €80 million on new storage reservoir How Twitter reacted to the news SuDS will become mandatory for new property developments in Wales from next year. W Rc has been awarded an early start project to help inform the design of the £103 million Havant Thicket Winter Storage Reservoir Project for Portsmouth Water. This involves the construction of a new winter storage reservoir – the first in the South East for decades. The reservoir, which will take 10 years to fully commission, is a collaboration between Portsmouth Water and Southern Water that will release water from other sources so that Portsmouth Water can supply up to 21Ml/d more water to Southern Water customers in Hampshire by 2029. The water for the reservoir will be supplied from surplus licensed winter yield from the 'prolific' Havant and Bedhampton Springs, used for public water supply since 1860 . Surplus yield from this groundwater source currently flows into Langstone Harbour. A proportion of this will be pumped to and stored in the reservoir. WRc will carry out the Raw Water Transfer Study to determine the optimum means of transferring raw water from the new reservoir to Farlington WTW, taking into account operational constraints, capital and operating costs and resilience of the raw water network. As someone who lives in Wales and works in SuDS, this is very very exciting news... "Once the new covered reservoir is operational, the other two open reservoirs will be drained and landscaping of the site will take place. The new covered reservoir will have the capacity to support future growth to 2031. "The remainder of the site will be retained for future water services infrastructure to secure the long-term supply of drinking water for the community." Irish Water has already invested €3.4 million to improve the disinfection of drinking water stored in the Stillorgan Reservoir, enabling the removal of the Stillorgan Reservoir from the EPA's Remedial Action List. wwtonline.co.uk | DECEMBER 2018 WET NEWS 3 WRc to help inform design of £103M storage reservoir Water will safeguard the water for the future. "The size and scale of this project is very significant. One of the three existing reservoirs at the Stillorgan site will be drained down and the construction of a new covered reservoir will be completed within the This legislation will vastly reduce the amount of highway drainage pollution entering watercourses & rivers from new developments. It will not resolve all river pollution, but it's a step forward. @ianapharri WET News is registered at Stationers' Hall. Origination by Faversham House and TR Clash Ltd.
