PEOPLE MATTER Although the energy sector is facing unprecedented change one thing remains constant – ensuring that zero harm is caused to employees working across gas, power and heat networks. Despite reductions in accident rates, ensuring that everyone in the sector returns home a er a day at work uninjured and without any harm to their health, is the number one priority for the people running the networks. In this issue there's a focus on health and safety with contributions from the Energy Networks Association (ENA) and Fulcrum. David Spillett, head of health safety & environment at the ENA, points out: "Looking forward, as the energy networks play a growing, pivotal role in enabling smarter systems and driving the delivery of green energy, new skills and competencies will become increasingly important. The industry's continued collaborative focus on health and safety will be as important as ever during these changing times." This particular statement really rings true. Our industry relies on unsung heroes and much of the of the work they do is only recognised by the public when something goes wrong. But their safety, along with consumers, really is key. It's important to recognise those who are doing things the right way. The Network Awards features a Health and Safety Initiative of the Year category and will recognise exceptional commitment to all-round health and safety by a company or organisation within the industry. More widely the event will celebrate the very best in UK energy networks, their supply chains, and the wider industry. What better way to recognise the unsung heroes working in this sector?
