18 | 2ND - 8TH NOVEMBER 2018 | UTILITY WEEK High viz Yorkshire Water is trialling the use of reused treated water from a wastewa- ter treatment plant to make concrete. Water from wastewater treatment plants is usually returned to rivers and it must meet strict Environment Agency standards. Although it is below drinking water quality, it is nonetheless suitable for reuse in some industrial processes. In what it believes is a UK industry first, Yorkshire Water has transferred water to Tarmac in Bradford, which used it to create batches of concrete. The concrete was transported to Yorkshire Water's Esholt wastewater treatment site where it was poured into 10 by 20m slabs that will become foundations for a National Test Centre for emerging water technologies.
