Work is progressing on schedule on
Severn Trent Water's flagship project,
the Birmingham Resilience Project to
reinforce the Elan Valley Aqueduct,
which has been the single source of
water for Birmingham and surround-
ing areas for more than 100 years.
The £300 million project is the larg-
est undertaken by the water company
and is due to be commissioned in
2019. Pictured is the 15m-deep sha
that will bring the water from the
River Severn into the new pipeline and
on to the treatment works 25km away.
Once completed, the new pipe
will run from Lickhill, near Stourport-
on-Severn, 25km into the company's
existing treatment works in Birming-
ham. Once in place, it will allow
Severn Trent to turn off the Elan Valley
Flagship project
