WATER Storm Ali claims life of NI Water contractor A man believed to be in his 20s working as a contractor with Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) died during Storm Ali, which battered the country last week. The water company confirmed that one man died and another was injured. Both were employees of one of the company's contractors. The man who died is thought to have been hit by a tree in County Armagh. An NI Water spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended to two individuals. Sadly one of these people died at the scene. "NI Water is currently working closely with the emergency services, the Health and Safety Executive and Police Service Northern Ireland and will do every- thing possible to assist. "Our thoughts are with the families of those involved at this time." Winds of up to 91 miles per hour also claimed the life of a woman in a caravan in County Galway in the Republic of Ireland and another woman was hospitalised. Network operators in Northern Ireland have been busy restoring power to more than 90,000 customers in the wake of Storm Ali last week. On Friday 21 September, around 1,900 properties were still without power, most of which were in mid-Ulster and the south east areas. NIE Networks has since confirmed that all customers have had electricity supplies restored, with the last customer having their power restored on Saturday 22 September. "Offering a tariff that incentivises profligacy risks undoing years of progress" Jonathan Marshall, head of analysis at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, criticises British Gas's unlimited dual fuel energy trial tariff, which offers customers a fixed monthly direct debit regardless of the amount of energy they use. 48% Research from Eon has found almost half (48 per cent) of people "secretly adjust" the temperature of their heating to avoid conflict in their household. "So-called legacy time-of-use tariffs create knife-edge price changes, restrict off-peak to inconvenient times and are implemented on clunky technology" Greg Jackson, chief executive of Octopus Energy, responds to the False Economy report from Citizens Advice, which calls on regulators and suppliers to "learn the lessons" of legacy time-of-use tariffs. 19MW Origami Energy says it will "intel- ligently" connect 19MW of battery assets to energy markets with the purpose of delivering "optimised economic returns".
