www.wwtonline.co.uk | OCTOBER 2018 | 35 KSB Impeller for Movitec pumps The KSB Group has devel- oped a special impeller for its Movitec multistage high-pressure pumps. This new impeller signifi cantly im- proves these pumps' suction characteristics (NPSH value) and is particularly useful in applications with critical inlet conditions (e.g. boiler feed applications) as well as ap- plications in which the pump is required to take in water from low-lying tanks or at higher temperatures. Under these conditions, cavitation can occur; the new impeller features a modifi ed inlet diameter, vanes allowing a slightly diagonal through- fl ow and a newly designed stage casing, all serving to prevent this. OTHER TOP PICKS Next month: Sensors and instrumentation THE DETAILS Sulzer EC 531 pump controller ● all-in-one unit for control and monitoring of sewage pumping stations with one or two pumps ● ensures increased effi ciency and reliability of municipal pumping stations and supports all aspects of the life cycle costs ● features alarms, pump status, level information and trends What is it for? Sulzer's EC 531 controller is used to monitor and control municipal wastewater pumping stations, allowing the operator instant access to alarms, pump status, level information and trends. It includes standard functionality to help monitor the equipment condition as well as to optimise and reduce risk of overfl ow, reduce energy costs and cleaning costs. What are the main benefi ts? Operating as a standalone control and monitoring unit, it is equipped with smart VFD control including PID and best effi ciency point (BEP), which save energy and equipment costs. It features variable stop/ start levels and pump- down to reduce the need for sump cleaning and off ers built-in pump effi ciency monitoring. What do they say? "There are many ways to improve the effi ciency and reliability of your collection network – even without changing a single pump," said a Sulzer spokesperson. "The eq uipment controller EC 531 is an easy, all-in-one solution that can boost and safeguard a two-pump station and collection network performance." The Knowledge Products: pumps and pumping systems Sykes Pumps' Inter- ceptor Drip Tray Pump hire specialist Sykes Pumps has introduced two new ancillary products to enhance environmental compliance on site with the launch of the Inter- ceptor Drip Tray and the heavy-duty Settlement Tank HD. The Intercep- tor Drip Tray is designed for use with any 2", 3", 4" or 6" pump to provide environmental protection against fuel or oil spillage. The 1,525mm x 2,440mm unit provides a solid base beneath the pump, with a depth of 303mm providing a capacity of up to 860 litres. Meanwhile, the new Settlement Tank HD adds to a range of settlement tank options from Sykes Pumps. Michael Smith TEFC IP55 motors Pumping specialist Michael Smith Engineers has intro- duced new TEFC (Totally Closed Fan Cooled) IP55 motor options for their range of Finish Thompson drum- and barrel-emptying pumps. This type of pump is used to transfer a wide range of fl uids from container-to- container, and these new motor options extend their capability to an even wider range of applications. The new motors include a power- ful 1,000W continuous duty universal motor providing 0-12,000 rpm variable speed operation. The variable speed TEFC versions feature solid state control with chemical-resistant touch pad for precise fl uid dispensing. PRODUCT OF THE MONTH
